Floor Coverings International Cleveland West had the pleasure of chatting with local interior designer, Sande Badowski, for the latest installment of our Designer Influencer Interview Series. Inspired by local artists and contractors, Sande successfully helps homeowners find their personal style and makes Cleveland homes look their best!

Please tell us a little about yourself.

I began helping homeowners with design in their homes 20 years ago. Window treatments, blinds, upholstery and fabric accents were my main focus, but as the years went by, more and more clients came to depend on me to help them make further choices on other facets of design in their homes.

How would you describe your design style?

My design style is traditional/eclectic mix. I try to help the homeowner personalize their space. I insist on starting with some pieces they currently have with maybe an update on fabric, or paint color. I also try to incorporate art work and accessories that have meaning, so instead of just purchasing a piece from a big box, we will have a custom canvas created or find a local artist to source from. Even pillows and memo boards are custom to their space.

What are your sources of inspiration?

I can’t help but spend time on Pinterest and surfing through magazines, but I also shop constantly, and make an effort to buy and use local artists and contractors who are excellent at their craft.

Are there any flooring trends that you love?

Well, everyone loves wood.  I prefer a mixture of tones warm and cool, walnut being a favorite. I feel this allows the design to be changed out over time, with out the floor looking dated. I am also a big fan of patterned carpet on stairways, and smaller singled out rooms, like a dining room or office.

Tell us about a recent project you’ve completed that you’re proud of.

Recently, I have been helping a homeowner update her house to ready it for the housing market.  She needed an new color scheme, upgraded and refinished flooring throughout, and staged the house so she could easily pick up and move and reset it in her new home.  She even decided to use the same color scheme, fabric and flooring options in the new home.  Very efficient on the budget, time and rewarding!
