In Westlake, Ohio, white oak flooring provides a warm touch of tradition to any room. Oak is one of the most popular species of hardwood flooring today – over 50% of all the hardwood flooring available today is an oak species. Oak flooring comes in two varieties: white and red.

Characteristics of White Oak Flooring

White oak, on average, is given a higher Janka hardness rating than red oak, and is used in multiple settings besides as a traditional flooring option. Barrels to store whiskey, brandy, and other liquors often use a white oak variety. It’s also favored in ship making as it is more resistant to rotting and mildew than red oak.

White oak flooring has a consistent light to charcoal-grey undertone. In addition, it tends to be darker and a bit more yellow in hue than red oak. If you want oak wood floors in your Avon, Ohio home, but are seeking a more subtle grain pattern white oak may be the best option for you, as red oak tends to feature more prominent and wilder grain patterns. For subtle grain patterns, maple or ash species may be better suited for your needs.

Style and Finish Options

There are quite a number of customization options that you can apply to white oak wood flooring. Our Westlake, Avon, and Avon Lake customers have the option to choose from solid or engineered wood, the width of your plank, and even your stain and finish.

  • Types. Choose from solid or engineered wood constructions to fit your project. If you are installing your floors below ground, engineered is the way to go. You can even choose laminate or luxury vinyl planks, which can imitate the look of white oak flooring if you’re on a budget.
  • Plank Width. White oak comes in a variety of plank sizes, ranging from the traditional and standard strip to wider and more rustic sizes (some even up to 12 inches!).
  • Stain & Finish. The oak can then be stained or simply finished with clear varnish to reveal its natural coloration. You can also choose to color stain the floors to your liking; oak species tend to accept stains evenly and easily compared to other wood species.

The finish and color that you choose for your oak flooring will make a big impact on the overall look of the room in which it is installed.
